Went in to buy a television and was ignored by 4 employees that kept walking by or talking to each other. One finally told me that I had to make an appointment if I needed help. Didn’t ask about help with what. Then was told if I wanted a store manager to go find her upfront she’s wearing black. Found her and again didn’t ask what I needed help with just said to make an appointment. Called customer support and they made a document of it and said in no way do I need an appointment to ask questions about buying a tv. The store was also very dirty and nothing is priced. When they arrived they said that it would cost 46.00 per appliance to move and that it was communicated to me wrong. It was on my receipt they would move it and hook up new. So they didn’t hook up my new or move my old and dropped it off in another room in house. When I called customer service I was transferred multiple times and kept getting disconnected. I went and looked and didn’t find what i was looking for so i walked back up and told him. He told me he had me in the computer and someone would be back there to help me. The in-store experience was five stars. The washer was supposed to be delivered. I left work early to be at the house for the delivery. They did not call to tell me that the delivery had been rescheduled for 10 days later. I cannot go 10 more days without a washing machine. Surprise, Surprise, 3 hours into waiting for them to come, I receive an email, the glass in the door is shattered and they can’t install it today. I have to wait another week. I can’t even talk to someone in the the store, only their main phone center. You’re telling me you have received 2, $3200.00 ovens with the SAME damage during shipping. Truly amazed with the service I received at the University Ave, West Des Moines, IA Best Buy! The lady that helped me was very helpful, friendly, patient and knowledgeable with my exchange. I bought some extras for my new laptop too along with Total Tech (which she was not pushy about – greatly appreciated) and she went out of her way to find the exact right product for my needs. With every request I had, she never hesitated once to find an answer. This Best Buy is not the closest one to me, but I will now be driving 40 miles out of my way to visit ONLY this store. Truly amazed at the service I received (hard to find these days), the friendliness, helpfulness, and knowledge my rep demonstrated!!!By Adam Forney (2 months ago)The 1st thing to remember is that everyone is struggling with staff and to be kind to the staff who are there in trying to help people. I found that staff were more than willing to help me and the greeter at the door went out of their way to find someone totally appropriate to give me personal service and help me and get exactly what I wanted when you’re older and you can’t see very well and you’re not really sure about things it’s really nice to have a young person who’s patient and willing to help you.
The store was clean and well organized.
Best buy has all kinds of electronic products for modern families and young people.
I was looking for some phone accessories and I was able to get help to find exactly what I was looking for. Other times I’ve gotten help with a small Smart TV and finding it and a camera. Each time there were young people that really knew their area that were available.
I’ve also had my laptop checked out and upgraded there and they did a nice job with that. Never going back what a poorly run store. PS the guy who helped us pick out a DVD player was great sorry forgot his name after my complete frustration trying to buy the player.By Paul Viers (3 months ago)I put my phone through the washer and took it into store 16 (university location), where I purchased my phone. what should have been a 5 day process turned into a 3.5 week hassle and a wild goose chase with one geek squad employee saying one thing and another employee saying the opposite. I went in and told them what happened and gave my info, realized I gave incorrect address as we had just moved. went back next day to give correct address and was told it was updated in the system and my new phone would arrive at my house within the same week. a week goes by and I found out my phone had been shipped to the store instead of house, upon receiving my phone the store promptly sent it back to KY where geek squad central is located. went back in and was told they would put an escalation on the matter in hopes on getting the phone to me asap. escalation was never pushed through- I received the box to send my broken phone back in before receiving or hearing anything about my new phone. a few days after receiving the shipping box for old phone I went into the store once again and was given my new phone. had I not went into the store who knows how much longer I would have waited to hear from them as they were given a phone number to contact to keep me updated and I never heard anything. Upon receiving my new phone I was reimbursed for the express replacement cost, I am thankful I was reimbursed although while doing so I found out I was charged double what it should have been.
Outside of waiting 3.5 weeks for what I was told was going to only take 5 days, the geek squad at store 16 failed to communicate with each other, leading to my phone getting shipped back to KY, the escalation never being pushed through, charged double for the express replacement that was not at all “express” and never reaching out to keep me updated as they said they would. Its not the fact that I went without a phone for 3.5 weeks, its the fact that it could have been prevented (not only by not putting it in the washer).
Not only do I not recommend store 16, I will not be returning and will be taking my business to the Mills Civic location.By kay linn (6 months ago)Worst customer experience I’ve ever had… by far!! If I could give a zero or negative number I would! I ordered almost $5000 worth of tv and sound equipment on Sept 17. I was originally scheduled for delivery and install 2 weeks from purchase. My delivery date got cancelled multiple times without notice.I called customer service and was finally given two dates — one date to deliver the equipment (so I could at least enjoy my new tv/sound system) and another date to come back and install. I was also told that I would receive a 10% discount off of my order for all my troubles.
I had a feeling from the phone conversation that the new dates weren’t going to happen either, so a couple days before the new delivery date, I stopped into the store to confirm that my delivery/install dates were still in place. Sure enough, both dates had been cancelled out of the system without any notice to me!!
A new date was scheduled along with assurances that I would receive a minimum 10% discount off the purchase for all of my troubles. The new date was almost 2 months from the original date of purchase.
In one of the many calls to customer service, I was given a case number and was told that I had to call back after everything was installed and I would receive my discount of approximately $500. I had to initiate the call, they would not issue me the discount unless I called back.
Today I called back to get my discount and was transferred 4 times and put on hold for over an hour, with no satisfaction. When I finally reached the right department I was told that I would only receive a 10% discount on the highest price item in my order — so rather than a $500 discount I would only be receiving $290 discount.
Extremely frustrated, I asked to talk to a manager. Reluctantly, I was told that I could and I was placed on hold. As I anticipated might happen, a manager never got on the line! I waited for about 45 minutes and no-one ever got on the line, not even a robot, nothing but mind-numbing muzak!
I’m back to square zero — the same number I’d like to give them for this review. And, unfortunately for them, I had started discussions with the store about redoing my entire kitchen with professional grade appliances. This would have been between a $25-35,000 purchase. Not going to happen now.

I was in and out with my order in roughly 10 minutes. Had a few questions and needed pointed towards a couple extra things and had wonderful help the entire time. My house was damaged during delivery and the fridge was significantly more damaged than the one at the store. Now a shelf broke but that isn’t covered by the $120 five year plan I purchased. You’ll have to contact the manufacturer but surprise it’s Best Buy’s brand and they don’t cover that.
I can’t wait til this store closes.
